We are celebrating Jimmy Carter’s 96th birthday! Here are some Carter facts:

  • President #39
  • Term: 1977–1981
  • Vice-President: Walter Mondale
  • Life: October 1, 1924-
  • Current Age: 96 years old
  • Political Party: Democrat
  • Nickname: Jimmy
  • Height: 5' 9 1/2"
  • Quote: “War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.”

Jimmy Carter was born in Georgia in the 1920s, when Calvin Coolidge was president. Jimmy liked to play baseball. Jimmy decided to join the navy and later to marry Rosalynn. He was even elected to the Georgia senate and later governor! Georgia’s most famous governor was later elected president of the United States during 1976. He won 297 electoral votes and 51% of the popular vote against Gerald Ford, the sitting president.

The day after he took office, he pardoned Vietnam War draft resisters! As president, he created the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. He also established national parks in Alaska.

James Carter was also a peanut farmer.

Carter is considered one of the smartest presidents ever! Jimmy is now making houses, and he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Here are some of my past blogs where he’s been mentioned…

He was #1 on Longest-Living Presidents.

He was #5 on Most Handsome Presidents.

He was #9 on The Greatest Presidents.

He was #7 on Top 10 Smartest Presidents.

We wish him a happy birthday!
